NEVER ODD OR EVEͶ brings to the stage the results of a collaboration between two duos: Filiz Sızanlı & Mustafa Kaplan (Turkey) and Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz (Portugal). Within each partnership the performers have more than a decade of experience working with each other, and for this project the two duos draw on their shared fascination for precision, minimalism and abstraction.

In NEVER ODD OR EVEͶ, the four explore ideas of duplicity and mirrored relations through wordplay, voice, movement and gesture. Here we find both similarities and differences between each pair and each body, as we consider ideas of continuity and rupture and take a look at the artistic, social and political implications contained in this confrontation, in these dualities.

Architecture of a Ruined Body @https://www.citerne.live/events/audio-choreography-walk

This excursion to the body of the city is an invitation to a walk. This podcast is a participation of listening, questioning and allowing new ways of perceiving and re-experiencing the city that we live in from a different perspective by following the voice guidance. How the city’s obstacles, disturbances, noise and transformations affect our body, can we raise more awareness on these topics? This audio choreography is an alternative way to be together, to act even on an online platform. You will need a phone with internet connection, earphones to listen to the podcast and a city to walk.

Mustafa Kaplan and Alain Michard are the same age. They both started dancing later than most professionals. But that is about all they have in common. They first came together in 2007, taking off on the theme of Art History considered as a ‘common good’, a space for sharing and passing on knowledge. The duet created in Avignon is the outcome of work that has brought together Mustafa Kaplan, a Turkish choreographer, and Alain Michard, a French choreographer, since 2010, in both Istanbul and Rennes. Les Hivernales welcomes these two artists for a new encounter where they spend some time checking each other out, testing their weight, coming together, mixing their eventful life stories, acting as the other’s spokesman, calling up spirits, wrestling, creating a dance that hits like a wave – in fact, a tidal wave.
